A POST MEANT FOR MY DENTAL COLLEAGUES…
Dear friends, here is a case of a 54 yrs old lady patient who reported with chronic periodontitis and severe bone loss. We successfully treated her employing strategic implantology techniques.
We have bye-passed the IAN and also the maxillary sinus with BCS implants without bone augmentation in the highly atrophied maxilla and mandibile. However, no pterygoid implants have been placed as I could get excellent cortical bone engagement in the tuberosity regions. Keyhole procedures employed ensured superfast and uneventful recovery of the patient. Immediate loading of the prostheses were completed within 72 hrs of implantation. Implants are from Dr Ihde Dental, Switzerland.
The case was done in 2014 & final prosthesis delivered in 2015. Patient is being reviewed once in 6 months since then.
Many implantologists have raised serious concerns on survival of such cases… on bone regeneration around the smooth surface implants and the status of the “unhygienic” prostheses in cases such as these… but please see the results here and judge yourself.
If I were to do this case now, I would reduce the number of implants and engage deeper cortical bone in the naso-maxillary buttress & ptergyoids…
