You'll be given local anaesthesia before the procedure starts. This will numb your gums so you won't feel pain while the doctor is working on your mouth. But as the numbing wears off a few hours after the procedure, the pain may be more sharp or persistent. Bleeding gums are also normal for the first day or two. You will need to rest for at least a day following the procedure. Any resulting pain is generally mild and can be relieved with ibuprofen. Aspirin pain relievers are usually not recommended as they can increase bleeding. As a surgical procedure, there is always a minor risk of infection, you may experience sensitivity and swelling, which will ease each day.
